Hamburg

Lake Erie shoreline, a lively village center, and the home of the Erie County Fair.

Hamburg is one of the largest towns in Erie County – about 60,000 residents at the 2020 Census – and one of the most varied. It includes the Village of Hamburg, the Village of Blasdell and lakeshore hamlets like Wanakah along Lake Erie.

The Village of Hamburg has a classic main street with local shops and restaurants, while the rest of the town offers everything from lakeside cottages to established subdivisions. Every August, the Erie County Fair – held at the Hamburg fairgrounds since 1868 – brings the whole region to town.

Buying here: what to know

Lakefront and creek-side properties can sit in FEMA flood zones and face shoreline erosion. Read the flood questions on the seller’s Property Condition Disclosure Statement and check the FEMA map for the address. Homes inside the villages pay village taxes in addition to town, county and school taxes.
