Kenmore
A walkable village on Delaware Avenue that calls itself "Buffalo's First Suburb."
The Village of Kenmore sits inside the Town of Tonawanda, right on the Buffalo city line. It counted 15,205 residents at the 2020 Census on about 1.4 square miles, which makes it one of the more walkable places in Erie County.
Kenmore grew up along Delaware Avenue in the 1890s and was incorporated as a village in 1899; the village still calls itself “Buffalo’s First Suburb.” Today Delaware Avenue is its main street, lined with local shops and restaurants, and the side streets are filled with homes from the early and mid-1900s.

A village with a story
Kenmore’s first lots were laid out along Delaware Avenue around 1888, and by 1890 a free horse-drawn omnibus carried residents along Delaware. The village was incorporated in 1899 and still calls itself “Buffalo’s First Suburb.”
Village life
Delaware Avenue is the village’s main street, with local shops, restaurants and services. The grid of side streets makes it easy to walk to the village center, parks and schools.
Buying here: what to know
Most homes date from the early and mid-1900s: colonials, Craftsman-style homes, bungalows and doubles on narrow city-style lots. Budget for an inspection that looks closely at older systems, and ask about sewer laterals and basement water.
Kenmore homes pay village taxes in addition to Town of Tonawanda, county and school taxes. Compare the full tax bill when you weigh a Kenmore home against one in the surrounding town.
